About the Big Buck Registry

The Big Buck Registry is a long-running platform dedicated to celebrating deer hunting, trophy whitetails, and the stories behind them. Established in 2010, Big Buck Registry was built on a simple idea: preserve the history, culture, and tradition of deer hunting by letting hunters tell their own stories.

At its core, Big Buck Registry is about more than inches, scores, or records. It’s about the camps, the cold mornings, the missed shots, the once-in-a-lifetime bucks, and the memories that stay with hunters long after the season ends. Every deer has a story, and every hunter remembers the ones that matter most.

The Podcast

Big Buck Registry is also home to one of the original deer hunting podcasts, with an RSS history dating back to 2013. The Big Buck Registry Deer Hunt Podcast features conversations with successful hunters, outdoor personalities, biologists, authors, and everyday sportsmen and women who live the lifestyle.

Episodes focus on:

More importantly, the podcast captures the why behind the hunt — not just the how.

Jay Scott Ammann- Producer, Founder and Host

Big Buck Registry was founded by Jay Scott Ammann, a lifelong deer hunter and storyteller with a deep appreciation for the traditions surrounding the hunt. What began as a simple idea—giving hunters a place to share their deer stories—has grown into one of the longest-running deer hunting media platforms still active today.

Jay is more than the host. Through BOSPN Media LLC, he serves as the show’s executive producer, overseeing planning, guest outreach, recording, editing, publishing, and distribution. He has also helped develop and support other outdoor and conservation-focused audio projects as a producer, consultant, and voice-over narrator. Along the way, Jay co-founded the Outdoor Podcast Channel and has also worked in outdoor media as social media manager for American Tracker with Lane Benoit.

As a podcast producer, Jay has worked on Warden’s Watch and the Thin Green Line series with Wayne Saunders, a retired New Hampshire Fish and Game lieutenant warden, and John Nores, a retired California Department of Fish and Wildlife lieutenant and author of Hidden War. Jay has also produced the Strut Zone NWTF All Access podcast and the Tales Up Podcast, consulted and helped launch the show Big Woods Bucks and the Granite State Woodsman. Jay also performed voice-over narration for Rackpacker, Hunter’s Blend Coffee, and Warden’s Watch.

Jay continues to expand the Big Buck Registry ecosystem through community-building and digital projects, including DeerMove.com, and he supports conservation-minded awareness efforts such as Operation Game Thief.

Dusty Phillips, Co-Host

Dusty Phillips is the co-host of Deer Hunt by Big Buck Registry, bringing a practical, boots-on-the-ground perspective to each episode. He’s also the voice behind the Chubby Tines Tip of the Week, sharing quick, useful takeaways hunters can actually put to work in the field.

Jim Keller, Deer News Anchor

Jim Keller serves as Big Buck Registry’s Deer News anchor, writing and recording the show’s news segments and monthly roundups. From conservation headlines to policy and wildlife management stories, Jim helps keep listeners informed on the bigger picture behind the deer hunting lifestyle.

Preserving a Piece of Americana

Deer hunting has deep roots in American culture. It has fed families, shaped communities, and passed down values of patience, respect for wildlife, and self-reliance. Big Buck Registry exists to help preserve that heritage in a modern world, while staying true to the traditions that built it.

Whether you’re a lifelong hunter, a new sportsman, or someone who simply appreciates the outdoors, Big Buck Registry welcomes you.
